I have osteoporosis — and, now, a non-healing fracture in my left arm. The long, thin bones drew a quarter of an inch apart during an over-zealous hour of gardening. How was I to know my ulna contained a hairline fracture? I only knew it was fall clean-up time in my untidy Portland garden, and I kept dead-heading the asters and brown-eyed susans — not noticing the pain in my arm until it was too late.
