Spotting the CoolBlue price uplift due to Corona Virus
The Corona virus is gradually impacting the world population and global businesses. One of the companies that is taking measures due to upcoming lack of supplies is Coolblue.be. You can checkout the article here for more information. The article claims that customers started complaining about price uplifts, probably due to the consequences of the Corona virus.
But now you are probably wondering, how much did prices go up? Luckily, there is a website that allows you to track your favorite products on two very popular e-commerce shops: Bol.com and Coolblue.be. The website is located on ikbentochnietgek.be and allows you to track the prices of products. You simply need to paste the webpage URL into the search bar.
On a side-note: I have actually built this tool for our family to track prices for diapers as we are expecting a daughter soon and we were told prices fluctuate a lot and so it appeared (see below).
Let’s take a look at some examples of prices. For example a Samsung Micro SD . If you enter this link on ikbentochnietgek.be you will see the price curve over time:
You can definitely spot the uplift in price from € 24.99 to € 28 (+12%) on Saturday 22th of February. Note that on this webpage you can subscribe to be notified if the price drops historically low or if it goes below a certain price threshold. The website only tracks prices for products that were searched for, and it tracks them on a daily basis. This product was searched by a user for the first time on the 6th of February.
Let’s take a look at another example, a Samsung high-end television:
In this case you can see that the price went up from € 1899 to € 2199 (+16%) over the weekend but went down again today to € 1999, so it looks like they are correcting already some of the price uplifts.
If we look at another example, the Samsung S9:
In this case we see that there was no price uplift, probably because the S9 is a very popular device and sold by many different vendors, so competition might be too big and therefore the price is not changed.
If we look at something totally different, like a Philips toothbrush, we can spot the same trend of the price uplift over the weekend:
In this example you can actually see how the price can fluctuate on these e-commerce platforms, it went up to € 150 (+50%) on the 16th and 17th of February. We can still see a price uplift to € 110 (+10%) over the last weekend.
On a final note, for all parents in spe, make sure to checkout the prices for diapers, as these can also significantly fluctuate over time. For example, the pampers maat 2 on Bol.com:
As you can see, it mainly jumps between € 28 and € 45 (+60%), so it can save you a lot of money when buying these products at their lowest price.
Alright, that’s all for now. I hope you enjoyed the read and feel free to start using the website ikbentochnietgek.be to track your own personal favorite products ;-).
